One of the biggest advantages of sourcing handmade fans from China is the custom design capability. Unlike mass-produced items, handmade fans can be customized in virtually every dimension — from the artwork and materials to the shape and packaging. Here's how the process works.

Step 1: Design Brief & Artwork Preparation

Start with a clear design brief: fan type (round/folding/palace), dimensions, color palette, artwork theme, and budget tier. For the artwork itself:

Your design: Provide high-resolution artwork files (AI, PSD, or 300 DPI PNG). The fan surface area determines minimum resolution — typically 2000×2000px for round fans.
Our design: Describe your vision and we create the artwork. Our artists can work in traditional Chinese painting, modern illustration, calligraphy, or logo-based corporate designs.
Adaptation: Have an existing brand pattern? We can adapt it to the fan format while preserving your visual identity.

Step 2: Material Selection

Choose from these combinations:

Frame: Natural bamboo (most popular), sandalwood (premium, aromatic), rosewood (luxury), or black lacquered bamboo (modern)
Surface: Pure silk (traditional, luminous), cotton-linen blend (rustic, eco-friendly), handmade paper (calligraphy-friendly), or synthetic silk (budget, colorfast)
Handle: Extended bamboo (standard), carved wood, jade-look resin, or metal accents
Embellishments: Tassels (silk cord), jade beads, gold leaf accents, embroidery, mother-of-pearl inlay

Step 3: Prototype Sampling

After design and materials are confirmed, we produce 2–5 prototype samples (7–14 days). These are real handmade fans you can inspect, photograph, and show to your customers. This is your approval gate — changes at this stage are straightforward and low-cost.

Step 4: Production Timeline

Artwork finalization: 3–5 days
Prototype sampling: 7–14 days
Bulk production: 2–4 weeks (depending on order size and complexity)
Quality inspection: 2–3 days
Shipping: 5–10 days (air) or 25–35 days (sea)

Total project timeline: 4–8 weeks from design approval to delivery.

Step 5: Packaging Options

Your fans arrive ready for retail or gifting:
